How many times have you said “if I could just control my anxiety, it would go away” or “if I could just control my fears and these negative thoughts, I would be calm and positive”?
So people want to be calm by controlling anxiety, but controlling anxiety makes it worse, and so now you amplify your efforts to control this amplified anxiety, and calmness becomes a mirage. 🤷♀️
You are starting from the assumption that CONTROL is going to make you feel CALM. Well let me tell you directly: What you think is the solution is actually the poison.
Why? Because controlling your emotions is exactly what makes them chaotic and out of control in the first place. 😅
Anxiety gets out of control because you try to control it (anxiety is bad, hating anxiety, etc.).
Fears get out of control because you try control them (disliking fear, escaping from fear, etc.).
Along with sadness, grief, anger and any other human emotion, they get out of control precisely because you try to control them.
These emotions get out of control because you keep dodging them and you resist and control your internal experience and how you feel them. Simply put, you are stressing yourself out internally and then you blame external factors for stressing you out. 😎
So it makes sense that applying more of what created the problem (need for control), will not solve that problem (anxiety, fears, etc.) and will just make it worse right?
